The 13–year–old from Shetland claimed the bronze medal in the Para–sport 100m breaststroke B69 category on another fantastic night for Team Scotland in the pool.

She was born with hip disorder Perthes disease and spent four years in a wheelchair.

Davies said: "I feel really, really happy to have won bronze. I didn't know I was the youngest–ever medal winner in the Commonwealth Games . That is amazing.

"I train after school and in the evenings. I had a few messages from my friends before the final but I haven't looked at my phone yet.

"I didn't know how I would get on but I just wanted to do my best and that is what I have done.

"I didn't really know how to tell my schoolmates."

Her proud parents David, 69, and wife Joyce, 64, watched their daughter blaze to glory at Tollcross centre.

Mr Davies said: "I just managed to stop crying but it was difficult.

"It was amazing, absolutely amazing. That's the only word to describe it."

Miley won bronze, to go with the gold she won in the 400m IM on Thursday, and said she was inspired by Davies before racing.

Miley said: "I was just willing her to get into a medal position and I am so chuffed for her. "I went into my own race with a big grin on my face."

Miley revealed her motivation was to prove the doubters wrong who felt she was too old at 24. She said: : "How will I top this?

I've no idea. But it's a huge indication that the work I've done is right on track.

"At 24 years of age, I'm still swimming PBs. A lot of people thought I was too old, I should be dropped and forgotten about.

"I might be small but I definitely don't want to be forgotten about. "That's been a big motivating factor. Age is just a number."

Dan Wallace, Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott and Robbie Renwick then capped a great night by finishing second to Australia in the 4x200 freestyle.

Ross Murdoch, Mark Tully and Joe Welstead all booked their place in tonight's 50m breaststroke final, while Katie Armitage reached the women's 100m breaststroke final.
