July 9th
The British Olympic Authority announced their team for the 2nd Youth Olympics.
Duncan Scott is one of 4 four males travelling to Nanjiing in August. This is a huge multi-sport event. The first Youth Olympics produced medalists at 2012. Rio will be in their minds
On the 6th Duncan flew to London to meet the British Swimming team before travelling onto the Netherlands for the European Juniors
Competition started on the 9th with Duncan being part of the 4 x 100 relay team. He swam a super personal best final leg of 50.41 in the heats and bettered it with a lead swim in the finals. Duncan was off the blocks in 50.14 and broke the GB 17 year age group medal. The team swam a fantastic race and won gold. This is the first time that the British have ever won this event.
Day 2 He swam a super 200 IM to make the quarter finals ranked 4th. That night he raced and broke his PB with a 2.02.66. He was ranked first for the final the following night.
Day 3 I the heats in the morning he swam the last leg of the 4 x 200 relay to ensure a place for the team in that nights final. The finals on the 11th were noisy and exciting. Duncan raced and enthralled the crowd with his 2.01.57 (equaling the British age group record) and won gold. The session finished with the relay. Duncan’s final leg of 1.48.31 was the fastest swim of all racers. It was a much talked about split. The 17 year olds swim was amazing to watch as he gobbled up the water. What would he do in the individual race?
Day 4 Heats in the morning had him swim a 1.52.40 to make the quarter finals that night. He then swam a 1.50.13 to be ranked third for the finals the following night.
Day 5 Fortunately the coaches decided to pull him from the 400 IM so he had only the 200 to swim in the finals. Duncan swam a PB of 1.49.66 and finished 4th.
A superb meet in Dordrecht. He was able to see friends he had made at previous European meets and to experience a level of competition that produced some world junior records.
