Duncan Scott has had an incredible year of swimming. He's competed and successfully won
- Golds at Scottish Schools
- 8 age group titles at Scottish age groups in April
- Represented Scotland at Tri Nations in May
- Won 2 Scottish Junior Titles at Tollcross, Glasgow in June
- 4 medals for Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival in July, a Gold and a Silver on his own with Silver and Bronze in the Relay.
What would August bring?
Duncan qualified for 10 events at the British Gas ASA Youth Championships in Sheffield but focussed on 6.
Day 1
- 100 Butterfly heats followed by a 4 x 100 relay.
- Session 2 saw the semis to qualify for the final.
Day 2
- Session 3 - 200 Freestyle heats took him into the semi finals.
- Session 5 - 100 Fly final winning Gold to become the ASA 15-16 age group champion breaking the Scottish Junior Record with 55.43.
- He followed this with another Personal Best in the 200 Free semi and another Scottish Junior Record.
Day 3
- Session 6 - Started with the 200 IM, and later that morning he had the 200 Fly heats. Both events saw him secure his place in the semis. He finished the morning with another 200 in the 4 x 200 relay swimming for his team F.I.R.S.T.
- Session 7 - Semi final of the 200 Fly. Halfway through the evening and another 200 metres to swim in the 200 Free winning Gold and breaking his Personal Best and the Scottish Junior Record from the day before. His final 200 was the Individual Medley semi final winning Gold.
Day 4
- Session 9 - 2 finals winning Gold in both and breaking Scottish junior records in both.
Day 6
- Session 13 - 400 IM followed by a Personal Best in the 50 Freestyle.
- Team swim in the 4 x 100 Medley Relay.
- Session 14 - semi final of the 50 Free and final of the 400 IM winning another Gold.
- Fifth last race was the 50 Freestyle breaking the GB age group record, the Scottish Junior Record and the Scottish Age Group record and won in 23.23 to become ranked 3rd in Scotland for all ages.
- 1 competition, 6 finals, 6 Golds, 1 GB record, 2 Scottish Age Group records and 5 Scottish Junior Records.
Duncan has a swimming scholarship to Strathallan School in Perthshire where he is coached by former commonwealth swimmer Elaine Johnston.
He competes for Bo'ness ASC part of Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team (F.I.R.S.T.) who is coached by Alloa resident Steven Tigg. Duncan is a member of Scottish Swimming Youth Development Squad and is assisted by the Institute Of Sport.
European Youth Olympic Festival - July 2013
Former St John's Primary school pupil and Alloa resident Duncan Scott has a swimming scholarship to Strathallan School. He is coached by former commonwealth swimmer Elaine Johnston. Duncan competes for Bo'ness and F.I.R.S.T., whose coach is Steven Tigg. Duncan is a member of the Institute of Sport and is part of Scottish Swimmings Youth Squad.
Duncan Scott qualified for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF 14th-19th July 2013) back in March.
Within weeks the British Olympic Authority (BOA) had invited him for consideration to the team.
He wasn't the only one honoured with selection. Steven Tigg, Duncan's coach since the age of seven first with Alloa ASC then at F.I.R.S.T., was selected as team coach for the boys.
Team GB came second overall in the medal table with 31 medals. The swimming team contributed to 16 of these. Duncan won 4 medals. Gold in the 200 IM, Silver in the 400 IM, a 4x 100 Mixed Relay Silver and a Bronze in the 4 x 100 boys Relay.
Day one of the swimming had him break the Scottish Junior and Age group record in 4.26.28 and take Silver. Later in the week he swam another fantastic 100m to again break the Junior and Age group record held by Olympian Robbie Renwick. On the 19th July he swam a Personal Best in the heats in the morning and was back in the pool for the last session to break another Personal Best, the age group and Scottish Junior record.
May/June
Duncan Scott turned 16 at the beginning of May, a week later he represented Scotland at the Celtic Tri-Nations at East Kilbride. Duncan broke three West District Age Group records the 200 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley and 400 Individual Medley and won a Bronze medal in the 200 IM.
Two weeks later, and still in the midst of GCSE's, he headed to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for the East District Grand Prix.
Scottish Olympians, Michael Jamieson, Hannah Milley, Craig Benson, Robbie Renwick and Caitlin McClatchy were joined by Liam Tancock, Kerri-Anne Payne, Joe Roebuck and many more. Duncan swam well although he'd had four days out from training due to illness. He gained the second prize for the middle distance swimmers from the three Grand Prix Competitions. He was joined by Butt, Kirkwood and Gibb to do a display 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay where they broke the Scottish Junior record.
13-16th June was the Scottish Nationals held in the newly upgraded International pool at Tollcross Glasgow, the venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Duncan finished his last exam on the 14th so was unable to defend his 200 Butterfly Junior title. He did win three Scottish Junior Titles, 100 Butterfly, 200 Individual Medley and 400 Individual Medley an Open Bronze medal in the 400 IM and a new wWest District Age Group record in the 100 Fly.
What next? He has qualified for 10 events at the ASA Youth Age Groups in Sheffield and has been selected to represent Scotland South and East at the UK School Games in September.
